Gary’s Biography
Gary Johnson, a resident of Fayetteville, AR and self taught artist who, while living and working in the Pacific Northwest, developed his skills in watercolor painting, taking numerous classes and workshops in the areas he’s lived in.
He was educated in engineering and business with both bachelor and master degrees and has traveled extensively through China as well as other Asian countries, Europe, and Australia. Although now retired, he’s worked in many parts of the U.S. and Mexico and enjoys traveling to places unvisited to develop new ideas for paintings.
His works are shown throughout the U.S. and WashingtonDC. Gary is a signature member of the Watercolor USA Honor Society, the South Carolina Watermedia Society, the Kentucky Watercolor Society, as well as a Diamond Signature member of the Mid-Southern Watercolorists. Gary has served on the Board of Directors of the Watercolor USA Honor Society and is currently serving on the Artists of NW Arkansas Board.
Gary is an award winning artist having won the Best in Show All Abstract in the Plano, TX Exhibition, received an award of Excellence in the 2020 Watercolor USA Exhibition, received the Excellence Award in the MOWS 2020 International Exhibition in Barcelona, Spain, won an award of Excellence in the Qingdao International Watercolor Exhibition in Qingdao, China, won the Bronze Award in the MSW 2019 and 2026 Exhibition in Little Rock, AR and won Third Place in the West Texas Watercolor Society’s 56th Juried Exhibition in Lubbock, TX. He also was selected as a Finalist in Splash 27 - The Best of Watercolor.
He’s been published in Abstractics 2nd Edition just released, and twice in Novum Artis, a journal for Galleries and serious art collectors in the U.S and abroad.
